The Stilo Multiwagon is a sort of estate/MPV hybrid that’s keenly priced with lots of room, loads of standard kit and there’s the choice of a great diesel engine. It also looks good and there are some great deals to be had if you shop around. Keen drivers won’t be inspired by the handling, but as an affordable family runabout, it’s worth a look.

Stilo replaced the Bravo/Brava range. The three-door car has a rather sporty look and feel and even comes in 170bhp Abarth trim. The five-door version is more family-orientated, with better rear access and legroom. Softly sprung, comfortable and significantly cheaper than a Golf (which is what Fiat aimed at). The 1.2 engine struggles with four people in it, but all are well-equipped, cheap to buy
